Skill Building and Vocational Services with Goodwill Industries are designed to provide knowledge and specialized skills training and assists individuals with such concepts as attendance, task completion, problem solving, and safety while engaging in meaningful activities that align with their individual plan of service. Our collaborative efforts are geared toward providing an increasing amount of services and opportunities in the Monroe County Community to enhance the perspective and provide the chance to learn and grow as individuals.
Participants with disabilities or other barriers gain skills through hands on training with job coaches:
- Oral and written communication
- Interpersonal skills and teamwork
- Computer classes using Microsoft Office
- Problem solving
- Encourage and build fine motor skills through crafting.
- Soft skills training
In partnership with Monroe Family YMCA as well as the Monroe County Health Department and MCOP have developed a “Healthy Living” program for participants. In the community Through a partnership between Goodwill, The Monroe County Intermediate School District, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, and Monroe Community Mental Health Authority we provide community based work experiences in preparation for employment to persons with disabilities and other barriers. Professional job coaches instruct participants in an integrated community work environment. Skills mastered give them the self-confidence they need to pursue and obtain employment. Services are individualized, within the scope of our service, to assist the consumer in achieving goals set in their individual plan of service.
